어반 어그멘테이션은 기존 장소와 새로운 관계를 형성하기 위해 고안된 프로젝트로, 참가자들에게 (도시) 공간이 단순히 지도에 표시된 장소가 아니라 자신이 거주하는 공간의 뉘앙스를 고정하는 방식으로 공간에 표시하도록 요청합니다. 참가자는 장소를 선택하고 장소를 어떻게 증강할지, 어떤 종류의 표시나 흔적을 남기고 싶은지 결정할 수 있습니다. 때로는 분필 드로잉으로, 때로는 뜨개질 하트나 포스터로, 때로는 주변에서 구할 수 있는 돌이나 나뭇가지로 현장에서 랜드 아트를 만들기도 합니다. 이 프로젝트의 공통점은 데이터가 이미 존재하는 것만을 설명한다는 개념을 거부하고 대신 지리적 공간과 새로운 관계를 만들어내는 데이터의 외향성입니다.
Urban Augmentation is a project designed to cultivate new relationships with existing places, asks participants to mark their inhabitation of space in some way that anchors the nuances of what (urban) space means to them--not just as a place mapped but as a place lived through.Participants select locations and decide how they want to augment them, what kinds of marks or traces they might want to leave. Sometimes it's a chalk drawing, sometimes it's a crocheted heart or a poster, sometimes it's a piece of land art created on site with available rocks or sticks. What the projects have in common is an extroversion of data, refusing the notion that data describes only what is already there and instead creating new relationships with geographic space.
